Lesson 1
King Midas & His Golden Touch

Once upon a time, there lived a very rich king named Midas. He had a massive treasury full of gold, but he was never satisfied. He always wanted more. He had a beautiful daughter whom he loved dearly, but his greed for gold almost overshadowed everything else. One day, a Greek god named Dionysus appeared before him and offered him a wish as a reward for a good deed. Without hesitation, King Midas wished that everything he touched would instantly turn into solid gold. The god granted his wish but warned him to be careful. Midas was thrilled. He went to his garden and touched an apple; it instantly turned into shiny, solid gold. He touched the roses, the pillars, and the doors, and they all turned to gold. He felt like the happiest man on earth. However, his joy was short-lived. When he sat down to eat his dinner, the bread and water turned to gold as soon as they touched his lips. He began to starve. Suddenly, his beloved daughter ran into the room to hug him. Before he could stop her, he touched her, and she instantly turned into a lifeless golden statue. Horrified and heartbroken, Midas wept bitterly. He prayed to the god to take back the curse of the golden touch. The god took pity on him and told him to wash in the river Pactolus. Midas did so, and the magic washed away. He touched his daughter, and she came back to life. Midas finally learned that there are things in life far more valuable than gold.
